A recent data report shows that nearly 25% of Indians hold more than one license. Since the different States and union territories have their own driving license this has lead to a confusing and chaotic situation for the government and traffic police. The government has not yet made it mandatory to link Aadhar, it has come up with a solution. The solution is the uniform driving licenses which is valid for States as well as UTs as per report.

The uniform driving license will not be just for new and learners driving license but it will also be mandatory for renewed driving license too. New vehicle registration certificates will also be modified. Rcs will have a new change as according to BS- VI norms, RCs will have to possess the chasis number and vehicle emission as per BS IV/ BS VI.

So by July 2019, all the new driving licenses across the country will be having the same format and same security features. Now DLs would be smarter, there will be a micro chip which would look like a sim card and QR codes. The driving licenses will have a near field communication feature just like a feature that is used in a metro card that helps tracking the details easily. There will also be a description of blood group and organ donor declaration. The DLs will have the state and country emblem along with the information of issuing authority.

The ministry of road transport and highways have been working over the problem of driving licenses redundancy. Morth head Nitin Gadkari confirmed that department have been working on a database that will solve the issue of data redundancy. There will also be stern measures against the people holding more than one license. The steps of single person acquiring the same license have been taken by adding the Aadhar details in mparivahan App and by Digilocker.

As per a report released by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, around 32,000 licenses are issued everyday in India. About 43,000 vehicles are registered daily. The Government of India has already started working on the issue and will roll out the plan soon by July 2019. The cost that will relate to the issuance of these new DLs will not be more than Rs. 20. The government step is indeed a welcoming one as it will turn down some hassles faced by government as well as people.
